Theo won a gold medal at the Katsuta Kup judo tournament in Raymond, a little Mormon town about half hour south of Lethbridge. Let's overlook the fact that there was only one other competitor in his category, so he couldn't have done any worse than silver.
In those cases, it's best two matches out of three, and Theo won both, first by waza-ari, osae-komi and ippon, and the next by ippon. (I think!) But regardless of the wins, he fought well and showed good sportsmanship, which for me is the main thing.
I think this is osae-komi, which means that if he holds his opponent down for 30 seconds (or 20, or 25 - who the hell knows?) he wins the match. He did.
