As spoiled as we were by the glorious fall and warm October, we could feel it coming to an end as the temperatures slowly dropped. But we were still in denial, till snow started falling lightly on but steadily on Nov 15 and continuing for days. It went to -27C, feeling like -38 with windchill by the weekend.
By the end of this week, though, a chinook came - always a mixed blessing: the warmer temperatures means that the relatively well-behaved snow gets moved around by the winds, piling high in drifts in yards and on the highways. If you don't have to go anywhere, though, it's not too bad, especially if you're a dog:
they like to wrestle anyway, but their daily walks have been curtailed by either the frigid or slushy conditions. At least, they burn off some steam wrestling while we're out shoveling the sidewalk.
The kids have eagerly awaited a chance to start building forts and tunnels, which alas will be covered up again or displaced once the wind starts to blow once more.
