September brought a lot of changes to our household. Stasha started grade 4 at her old school with a new teacher, Theo started grade 6 at middle school, and I started grad school. It was some comfort to have judo and Ukrainian dancing as constants that had some familiarity.
For myself, I noticed quite a few changes, even if I was at the same university with the same teachers. What makes being a grad student different? Mostly, being given actual desk space and a room, so that you can go to the bathroom without struggling to fit your coat and backpack into a tiny cubicle. Somehow this alone makes me feel elevated above mere mortals.
However...
All through the last week of August, we have been bracing our selves for this transition from sleeping in, hanging out in the backyard, and generally futzing around to getting back to a routine.
Running through our mental list of school start times, bus schedules, fees, band equipment * etc., Tim gloomily observed:"September is the month of the damned."
The children appear to agree.
However we also have this fabulous new dog, who looks like a muppet. Like her predecessor Tassie, she is happy to hang out in the kitchen, and although she could probably just lick loaves of bread off the counter, she is content to just wait for food to drop.
