During the February reading week break, we decided it was time to freshen up the front room, in hopes of making it more user friendly. It's always been a bit underused, despite being crammed with books and sunshine. But the couch is still an old, rather saggy one from our early days together when we still had bookshelves made of boards and cinder blocks. Anyway, it was time to re-paint the red walls.
First to go is the trout wallpaper border. Since the children are taller than me, they are sensibly employed in the stripping and scraping.
Again, since they're taller than me, Stasha is well employed putting on the primer. She's actually getting pretty good at this, having been involved in quite a few painting projects already. And now she can paint the top halves of the walls.
The colour is a fresh green, and we added new bookshelves. But even before putting in seating, it's already looking like a reading room:
The dogs were not very useful at all and spent most of their time penned behind the basement gate. Thus they were extremely excited to be able to come back and wander around in the room again.
and finally, new furniture - probably the first "grown-up" furniture we've bought since we've been together, and along way from the futons and cinder block bookshelves we started with. Some assembly required - Tim and Stasha putting together the arm chair:
and some puffy couches, looking very inviting for reading.
although we kept room for the brass CPR bell and some of the other CPR/prairie paraphenelia.
We are very happy with the redo - and the much more inviting furniture. We also moved the piano up here as well, and look forward to enjoying the room much more than we have in the past.
